Frame Repair Tap

Tap was easy to use. Worked very well without having to drill hole first. Worked perfect to widen stripped bushing holes.

The original bushing threads striped. Bought this tap and the guide and the oversized bushings. Everything worked together well. Totally saved my frame. I will only use Challis bushings in the future

Fragging a grip bushing on a brand new aluminum frame Kimber just by removing the factory grips ruined a good day. This tap, which is special(tapered so no pre drilling), made replacing the bushing simple.

EASILY a five star rating. Get a quality tap handle, use a little bit of some household 3-in-1 oil to help the process, take your time, go slow, think before you act, and success with this product is pretty much guaranteed. This was the first time in my live I've ever tapped new threads, and it went easy as pie.

I had a stuck and buggered up grip screw bushing on my Springfield M1911. I had previously tried turning it out with a screwdriver, which naturally failed, and drilling it out to collapse it in on itself with a punch, which naturally failed as well. I was left with the original, and now damaged, threads in the frame, together with remnants of the grip screw bushing stuck in those threads.

I spent about 20 minutes slowly and carefully working the tap into the hole, with the help of the alignment jig. As soon as it was ready to cut new threads the tap bit and the feeling on the tap handle changed. Just a few easy moments of carefully tapping the new threads and presto, my oversize bushing fits perfectly. I'll be replacing the other three bushings with the higher quality hex-drive versions, BEFORE they cause problems.
