“Challis Grips has gained a very special place in the hearts of 1911 enthusiasts when they went on to design and develop the well respected Challis grip bushings. So what’s the big deal about bushings? Well, for those that are not familiar with these new design Challis parts, I suggest you jump on the growing band-wagon of long-time 1911 owners who have been trading out their outdated slotted bushings to exchange them for this new and different design. It is not an accessory... It is something that will improves the 1911 experience with better functionality, increased comfort, and ease of use. Yes, it sounds like a lot for a simple grip bushing but it’s something more than that. Brian designed them to be used both on their own, and as a complete package along with a special o-ring geometry that none of the other manufacturers paid attention to before. Used alone or combined with the proprietary o-rings, it’s a complete package that has improved the 100 year old 1911 design. Now combine that with one of the nicest, most generous guys in the industry, and then add his son Nate to the mix, you are guaranteed to have a team that can, and will, solve any issue that you might pass their way. They will go the length that will ultimately make you wish switched years earlier.” Mitchell Nussbaum, November 2017
Challis hex drive bushing are on all my 1911s. The stainless frames get stainless bushings and the steel frames get blued.
Two of the four bushings had threads that appear to be slightly oversize, almost to a point of being an interference thread fit. Original bushings screwed in/out easily. Other than that, the entire installation of new grips, (standard width, from slim line) went well, including fitting 'O' rings.
First I'll say I didn't need them. Both guns are almost new and the bushings were fine. First reason I did it was that two of the bushings in the .45 were loose and would come out with grip and grip screw. Second was that the way that Challis presents the bushings and O rings they are supposed to help prevent your grips from moving while shooting and or possibly rubbing marks on the frame. Third, they just look cool and like really neat mods. I love tinkering and moddin'. So for the low cost I decided to upgrade. I also got the bushing extractor tool just in case. Was WELL WORTH it. Turns out I NEEDED it for the 9mm. Very well made high quality items, all of them.
I am very pleased with my order. The parts fit as intended and look great as well. Having a hexagonal profile to work with made installation of the bushings easier and causes less unwanted markings on the parts. While stainless can exaggerate manufacturing flaws, a fine finish made this feature very attractive to the eye. Also its hexagonal driver recession gave character to the visible area of the screw head. A good product, fair prices, and fast shipping, lead me to recommend these products to others.
