Very impressed with the bushing removal tool. The video stepped me through it but honestly, it was even easier to use. I'll be swapping out my bushings on a number of 1911s.
Fantastic tool. Didn’t realize the bushings were staked from the factory and I stripped the slots for the flathead screwdriver. This removed them easily. Worth the money.
I was very excited to get this tool. It had been recommended to me in various places and my sources were spot on. It quickly and easily removed crooked, cheap, MIMed grip screw bushings with no stripping or breakage. I tested it on one of my ‘beater guns’ to see how it worked—I think I will put some thin moleskin on the frame side before I use it on a blued or SS gun. It left the faintest circles on the frame. Not a scratch, but a line nonetheless. I’m glad I bought it, and am VERY happy with this tool in the box.
I always change my 1911 grips to slim grips, which necessitates removing the old bushings. I've used vise grips, the Brownell's bits, and Grab-its/EZ-Outs, but this tool makes it easy. I've paid gunsmiths on occasion for this task. The Brownell's bit slipped off. Vise grips made a mess. The Grab-its worked, but with torque from a drill it was hard to control and prevent the bit from "walking." I'm impressed with the Challis tool. I removed 4 staked Colt bushings in less than 15 minutes without any problems.
Removed some very stubborn bushings from two steel framed 1911's. Easy to use. Most 1911 makers use thread lock, but this tool can overcome that, removing the bushings intact and with frame threads unharmed.
