Where was this thing all my life? Makes a very annoying procedure quite pleasant. Fabulous piece of kit. Thanks, Challis
This is a fantastic little device that works well and is easy to use. I previously damaged a grip bushing using a screwdriver and this extractor got that damaged bushing out quite easily. I will never attempt to remove a grip bushing again without using this extractor. Well worth the money.
I've tried a lot of 1911 grip bushing tools. This is the first one I have used that works all the time. Others mar the bushing, bend the part or break it. I even bought one for my son.
I hit the installed bushings with a bit of heat from a heat gun and the tool removed them with absolutely no damage to the bushings or frame threads. The last time i removed bushings with a screwdriver i ruined 2 of the bushing and luckily didn’t damage the frame threads. Even if you think you will only need to use it once, go ahead and buy it. Damaging your frame will be a much bigger pain and expense than this tool.
I ordered this tool the moment I heard of it, praying there was finally a solution to the problem of removing the cheap, soft, crappy bushings installed at the factory. I've had bushings which were so tight you would think they had been welded into place, and of course they would disintegrate as being removed. Only having this tool a couple of weeks, I've had occasion to use it 3 times, on 2 frames over 40 years old each, and a brand new Colt Commander. The tool worked perfectly, installing easily and giving me the ability to provide a tremendous amount of torque, safely without risking damaging these valuable finishes. The new Commander frame was so tight I had to heat the bushings with a torch to break them free, and I am quite certain I would have never been able to remove them without this tool. I intend to order another, and believe all 1911 owners should have at least one of these in their tool box or range bag. And if the same gorilla puts the bushings in your Commander that installed mine, you won't have a choice, and you'll love this this little tool, just like me.
