Have a 30ish year old SA that has been hiding in the safe for a large part of that time, and decided to do a makeover. I knew the old bushings would be toast, but naturally I would try to get them out the old way. Well, buggered 2 up and stopped. I have access to a TIG welder and it's owner so I ain't sceered. Before resorted to that, I bought this thingy after noticing it in a YouTube video. Even after me buggering up the bushings and using no heat, this thing popped them out. Buy it just in case!

Went ahead and bought bushings, screws, o rings etc, and they are all top notch stuff too. We'll see if I decide to afford a set of these beautiful grips.

I was already a huge fan of Challis bushings and O-rings but that was it until a week or so ago. I had been changing bushings using a caveman methodology. Once I had the grips off, I would insert the point of a hobbyist soldering iron into each individual bushing. I waited about 5 minutes for the iron to heat up the Loctite most manufacturers use to install their bushings. The heat isn't harmful to the frame, too little spread over a large surface. It worked fine with only a couple requiring an easy-out. Start to finish, each bushing took about 10 minutes.

For whatever reason, I decided to let loose a little change and buy the full size Challis Bushing Removal tool for $25. I thought the bushings and O-rings were one of the greatest ideas that worked perfectly well. But the removal tool took things one step farther! WOW, what a time saver and never a cross threaded removal or buggered up old bushing. They all came out immediately with nothing more than the tool and a bit of slight pressure to begin turning the old bushing.

I've got to hand it to you yet again Brian! Being able to put a screw - provided with the tool - thru the removal tool into the bushing is pure genius. Not only was it superbly effective, I was able to remove all 4 bushings in less than 5 minutes - that's a saving of about 35 minutes per gun with none of the additional tools needed. I love custom grips and Challis is the only name to protect them and make life for an old geezer like me a little easier. I sure wish I had taken the plunge before I did my previous 20+ 1911's. I am in your debt sir. Thank you for another exceptional product! And I still have it for the next 20+ that need that attention . . . . .

. . bushing removal. What used to be a gunsmith’s task can now be done by anyone with two left hands (or two right hands 😀).

Why didn’t I think of that??? Huh??
