Easy to install and remove. Loctite is not necessary. Use 7/32" nut driver or socket. If using a torque driver, 18 in-lbs is recommended for both steel and aluminum frames. These full size bushings will work with grips not less than 0.245" thick....

A better fix

I had to replaced damaged slim grip bushings on a new 1911. I ordered the slim bushing extractor and easily removed the damaged bushings. I replaced the damaged bushings with stainless full size hex bushings. The hex drive makes them easy to install, and if necessary, removal should be a breeze. I also ordered new grip screws and o-rings for the bushings and screws. The pistol has been to the range, and everything stayed in place. The o-rings let me use less torque when tightening everything down, and reduce the chanced of bushing problems in the future.

Challis bushings are a welcomed improvement - a game changer - for 1911 aficionados. I’d like to think that JMB would enthusiastically highly approve.

A perfect solution to loose bushings and screws

Cons:
I previously purchased the bushing removal tool and the hex bushing driver, both of which functioned flawlessly. That bushing removal tool is fool-proof, by the way. Wonderful tools. I have since purchased many sets of the hex bushings (both stainless and standard) with bushing O-rings and grip screws (both stainless and standard) with grip screw O-rings. These bushings and screws in conjunction with their respective O-rings have been installed on several Ed Brown pistols, a couple of Les Baer pistols, and a Colt or two. All of those pistols would periodically have the grip screws come loose - and of course, it was always during heavy range use or a comp of some kind - drove me crazy, but 1911's are infamous for that, so I just tolerated it. Having since installed the Challis bushings, screws and O-rings, that's a thing of the past. It amazes me how little torque is necessary to keep the bushings and screws in place, as opposed to the previous routine of tightening screws to the point of always worrying about stripping the bushings. Now, I just install 'em and forget 'em. I would urge anyone considering your system to get the removal tool and the bushing driver to go along with the other components, as they make the changeover a snap for even the novice. You've got a marvelous product, reasonably priced and it has exceeded my expectations. Ron Stallins

John Browning is somewhere shaking his head, and saying to himself, "why didn't I think of that?" These bushings are a vast improvement over standard bushings. I have a lot of 1911's and they all have the hex bushings now. Great job Brian!
